First Grade

The First Grade Team is excited to learn with your children this year. Please know that we value your input and look forward to working with you throughout the year!!

Welcome to First Grade!

I am very much looking forward to working with and getting to know you and your child this year. First grade is an important year and I will work hard to make it a pleasant and successful experience for your child. To keep hydrated, the children are permitted to bring a water bottle with a sipper type top. Screw tops are often difficult to open independently and easily spill. It is helpful to have a water bottle cover to prevent condensation from leaking on their desk. An old sock works well – you can even have your child decorate it!! As for snacks your children may bring ONLY FRESH FRUIT OR VEGETABLES. Please no dips or additional foods as we have many children with allergies.  I allow your child to have their snack at 9:15. If they choose not to have it then, they may eat it anytime throughout the day. Each day your child is responsible for recording their behaviors while at school. I think this is a good way to foster responsibility and to establish good work habits. Be sure to praise your child for working their best, as the first few weeks of first grade can be tough for some children. I do not need their behavior sheets returned; it’s just a way to communicate with you about your child’s behavior each day. Look for your child’s, “How I Did Today,” sheet in their Take Home Folder starting today. The Jefferson School Handbook is currently on the Jefferson website. Each family will need to review the school policies, print and sign the last page I will collect these and then send them to the office. It would be great to have these ASAP  Thanks! If you need to contact me, my e-mail is kfullerton@elmhurst205.org. I am excited about the new year.

Thank you, Kelly Fullerton
