One Jefferson, One Book (Monday, February 14th through Monday, March 7th): Jefferson Tigers, are you ready to read?! The One Jefferson, One Book program will begin on February 14th and will last until March 7th. One Jefferson, One Book is our second annual school-wide book club. The goal is to encourage both the school and its families to come together and build a community of readers. A community where we can all share thoughts, ideas, and a passion for reading. The entire school reads the same book (can you guess???) at the same time. Everyone - students, parents, teachers, even administrative staff - will be participating, and we can all reap the many benefits. Everyone has the opportunity to partake in various activities that support the theme of the chosen title. For example, STEM projects, vocabulary games, discussions, trivia, art tutorials, bingo, give-back activities, contests, guest readers, and more! This program is sponsored by the Jefferson PTA. Special guests will be helping us launch the program on the morning of February 14th. There will be YouTube videos of readings of each chapter available for early readers and/or families to read along.
One copy of the book per family will be distributed to all Jefferson families on Monday, February 14. Please look in the backpack of your youngest child for the book.
Please make sure to read Tiger Beat, check out the PTA website, and follow the Jefferson PTA on social media for more details and to get access to all of the fun activities planned! It is our hope that everyone will not only fall in love with this year's characters but will fall in love with reading as well! if you have any questions, please reach out to Kathy Fromm (kkelly098@aol.com) or Ioana Fernandez (ioana@iprchicago.com).

She is VERY excited to have both new and experienced volunteers help her out now that all of our students are able to check out books weekly. All parents are welcome to sign up, and will be scheduled for a one hour shift at least once a month. The available times are currently Tuesday through Friday from 8:15 am until 9:15 am and Wednesdays from 11:30 am until 12:30 pm.
We currently have a mighty LRC volunteer team of 10, but we need more of us to help organize and restock the shelves. There are SO many books coming back in, and the to-be-returned book carts are constantly full. We want to help get the books back into student hands as soon as possible, and keeping the stacks in great shape is a key part of that! You can work as frequently as you would like, or just once a month. And the time flies when you're there!!!
If you love to organize, love books, or just love to help, please fill out this Google Form. If you have any questions, please contact Jill Burns (jillburns5@gmail.com).
ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
Book Fair: Everybody loves the book fair because the book fair gives back! It was a magical week of reading under the stars! A special thank you to Dr. Podraza and our mascot TJ the Tiger for making the Family Night event so much fun by spending time with our Jefferson families.
With all your help the PTA was able to donate over $3,300 in new books: 170 new books to the Jefferson Library and teachers' classrooms and 385 new books for all students.
Thank you to Mrs. Howe (LRC) who was instrumental in organizing classroom book fair visits and introducing new books to the students. Thank you also to the 28 book fair volunteers that covered shifts, decorated the gym and lobby, set up and took down the fair, and helped our students find their favorite book.
A very special thank you also to our book fair co-chairs Ioana Fernandez, Kathy Fromm, Kanako Shuaipaj, and Jess Testani. The book fair would not be possible without all of your efforts.
See you next year at the book fair!
Trivia Night Donors: The Jefferson PTA would also like to send a big thank you to our donors for the November 5th trivia night! We will spotlight a few each week. Thank you to Classic Cinemas for movie passes, Halfway House and HB Jones for their generous gift cards, and Kilwins for free ice cream for a year! JEFFERSON ELEMENTARY PTA 2021-2022 Welcome Back!
On behalf of the Jefferson PTA Board, I would like to welcome you BACK or welcome you IN to our Jefferson family! Our PTA Board has been working hard this summer to plan the year with hopes of a more normal year. Our plan has taken on a “best of” approach to events and programs. We hope to rebuild our connection to our school community with in-person events where allowed while keeping PTA meetings virtual simply for the flexibility for more parents, teachers and staff to attend during the evenings. We are proud to say that the Jefferson PTA is focused on how we move forward together.
Our plan for the year will include:
- A concise, streamlined PTA-focused newsletter every week and communicate important dates at the top.
- We will strive to keep our PTA website updated so you can go there first to look for important information.
- We encourage you to attend our virtual monthly Jefferson PTA meetings.
- We encourage you to follow the PTA social media accounts on Facebook (Families of Jefferson 205) and Instagram (@jeffersonptad205) to be kept up to date on all the PTA happenings.
We are asking parents to support us in our mission and join the PTA this year by choosing one of our new membership offerings or an individual membership as your means allow. The PTA partners directly with our school administrators and teachers to support their needs and we are uniquely positioned to respond and adapt as the needs change. Our budgetary needs are covered by a combination of fundraisers as well as memberships. Membership in the PTA gives you the right to participate and vote at our meetings AND it is the only way you will have access to our school directory. We strongly encourage you to join the PTA!!
I thank you in advance for your support and look forward to seeing many of you back at school! Let’s Move Forward Together!!
Should you ever have questions, you can reach me via email at meghan.l.hood@gmail.com.
