Join the PTA: Membership allows you to participate as a voting member in an organization that not only benefits your child, but ALL children at Jefferson! If you haven’t done so already, please sign up, pay your membership dues and get access to the school directory. 

Follow these simple steps:

  • Go to https://d205jeffersonpta.membershiptoolkit.com to register on the new platform Membership Toolkit for our PTA Directory for the 2019-2020 school year. 
  • Click on the Register/Login button.
  • IMPORTANT: Returning parents NEED to create a "New User" account and should use the same login and password as you had with MySchoolAnywhere under "NEW USER." See next step.
  • Select “Create Account” under “New User” and fill in the name, email and password information.
  • Click “Verify My Email” and then check your email for a link to complete the process. The link expires in 2 hours. If you do not receive the email, please check your spam or junk folder.
  • Next verify your email address, log back in and complete the steps below.
    • Complete the Parent/Family and Student Information.
    • Complete the Directory/Publish Preferences.
    • Update the teacher category for your child(ren).
    • Once these forms are complete, you will be presented with the forms for all of your Back-To-School needs in one convenient place!

Once the Primary account is set up, the Primary User can “invite” other email addresses to access their account. This allows the Secondary User to have their own login information, but still have access to the family account.

You will also have access to the directory from your smartphone. Go to the AppStore or Play Store and search for Membership Toolkit, download the app and login with your credentials.


Jefferson Running Club (JRC) (back to top
The Jefferson Running Club (JRC) is about to start it's 12th Year! For those new to Running Club, students in grades 1 through 5 may run/walk laps during their lunch recess for a 25 minute period. They have the opportunity to run around either the grass perimeter of the school grounds/Van Voorst Park or around the Fern Cul-de-sac (depending on field conditions). Three times around the field is about 1 mile. Kids receive a chain when they sign up, followed by the chance to earn a colorful plastic foot charm for each mile they run during the JRC season. Kids love and collect these feet (they can turn in 26 smaller feet for one big foot)! JRC is scheduled to start, Wednesday, September 4th and will continue on Mondays and Wednesdays through early November (weather permitting). Spring Season begins after Spring Break. If your child is interested in running, please turn in the Running Club Permission Form to your child's respective teacher. Kids will only be allowed to run if they wear appropriate running footwear. This is at the request of Jefferson School and required in order to keep students safe. Last year JRC had a SPECTACULAR year generating a total of 2,719 miles. To put it in perspective, this would be like running all the way across the United States from New York City to Los Angeles! JRC rocks and runs! We cannot wait to see how far they go this year! 

In order for Running Club to run safely and efficiently, we need volunteers! Family members are welcome to cheer on the kids too: aunts, uncles and grandparents! Please see the below sign-up genius link to volunteer for your preferred session(s)The first session will be from 10:50am-11:25am for 3rd, 4th and 5th graders and the second session will be from 11:25am-12:00pm for 1st and 2nd graders. We need all hands on deck for September 4th so the more the merrier!

Jefferson Fun Run (back to top)
Join us for the 4th Jefferson Fun Run on September 6th at 7:00PM in it's NEW location at Jefferson School! All students, families, faculty and staff members are invited!  

The event kicks off with some fun warm-ups and music.  You choose your distance; 1 lap, 1 mile or a 5K!  Don't like to run?  Walk your way around the path, volunteer to help set up, pass out water or be on course safety patrol. Contact Meghan Hood to help out!

Library Volunteer: A quick orientation session for all Library Volunteers will be in the Jefferson library Friday, August 23rd at 2:30PM. Please join us if possible. Contact Michelle Saltiel with any questions.

Lunchroom/Playground Volunteer: Your help is needed! Please consider volunteering in our Lunchroom & Playground Helper program. Volunteers assist the Lunchroom & Playground Supervisors in supporting the needs of all Jefferson students during lunch/recess time. Volunteers work the entire lunch/recess shift, from 10:50AM–12:30PM. Parents may sign up to volunteer for one time or many! Spiritwear: Want to show your Jefferson SPIRIT? The 2019 Jefferson Fall Spiritwear drive is now open and ends on August 23rd. There are many new styles for boys, girls, and parents. Please visit our online store, CIA Spiritwear, and look up Jefferson 2019 (Online ordering only).

Jefferson Trivia Night: Save the date! Jefferson Parents mark your calendars, book your sitters, and get ready to have fun. The second Jefferson Trivia Night will take place on November 15th at 7PM at Knights of Columbus. This is an adults only event. More details coming soon. If you would like to help organize the event, please contact Ioana Fernandez

Nightmare on York Street Halloween Party: It’s baaaack...the Jefferson Parents’ Halloween Soireé is October 26th at 7PM at Cottage Hill Station's Nest. Costumes are a must! This is an adults only event. All proceeds from tickets benefit Jefferson PTA. The ticket includes DJ and appetizers. Cash bar. JOIN US IF YOU DARE…FOR A NIGHT THAT’S SURE TO SCARE! A few tickets are still available ($50/person). If you would like to be part of the fun, please contact Ioana Fernandez.

The REACH Parent Group continues its efforts to provide valuable and timely information to our parents. Please join us for our first REACH Parent Informational Meeting of the year on Thursday, Sept. 12th, 7:00PM, Sandburg MS library (please park in the north lot, enter door 7) or on Friday, Sept. 13th, 8:30-10:00AM, Sandburg Maker Space (enter door 1, through office).

Invited speaker is Leslie Weber, Director of Curriculum. The presentation will cover a program overview, identification, expectations, appeals, as well as information on the REACH Program Analysis this year. There will be an added focus on those families new to REACH. In addition, experienced REACH parents will be on hand for questions and to provide further insight into the program. This meeting is open to ALL D205 parents including second grade parents wanting to learn more about the program. Contact Patti Berner, Chair,  REACH Parent Group, with any questions.

Be A Scout: Jefferson has a great group of scouts and we would love to add your son(s) to our tribe! Drop-in registration is Tuesday, August 27th, 6:30-8:00PM in the Jefferson lobby. This is for NEW SCOUTS only, returning scouts need not attend. Events planned for this year already include: Go Ape, Boat Regatta, Pinewood Derby and a Cantigny Museum Sleepover! Student Late Arrival days (Staff Professional Development days) occur on Wednesdays, once or twice per month. Please refer to the Elmhurst D205 school calendar for specific dates. Supervised student arrival will begin 15 minutes prior to the start time. Start and dismissal times for 2019-2020 Student Late Arrival days are as follows:

  • Grades 1-5: 9:45AM - 3:00PM
  • AM Kindergarten: 9:45AM - 11:55AM
  • PM Kindergarten: 12:55PM - 3:00PM

D205 State of the Schools Address by Dr. Moyer: Share in the success story of our schools on Monday, September 9 from 7-8:30PM in the York High School Commons. The presentation is free and open to the public. Parents and our school community are invited to attend this special annual address hosted by Superintendent Dr. David Moyer designed to celebrate recent successes, share updates on key endeavors like the District’s Master Facility Plan, the coming of All-Day Kindergarten to D205, the Business Incubator Program and Manufacturing Lab at York High School as well as Thrive D205, the district’s new school and community wellness partnership. D205 is poised to be a national leader in future-ready learning.

Jefferson Elementary PTA 2019-20 Welcome  (back to top)

The Jefferson Elementary School Parent Teacher Association (PTA) would like to welcome you to the 2019-2020 school year!

Your Jefferson PTA supports educational and social activities each year for the benefit of EVERY Jefferson student such as the Book Fair, Family Math Night, Junior Great Books, Mathletes, Running Club, the 5th Grade Memory Book, Science Olympiad and Winter Carnival. In addition to these activities, with your help we were also able to contribute with the following: 

  • Indoor Recess Kits: When the weather is bad, students must stay inside during recess.  The Indoor Recess Kits provide educational games and activities for students to occupy their time
  • Passion Projects: We offered support for individual classrooms to create projects based on students passions.
  • Outdoor Sails for the outdoor classroom: Sails (giant umbrellas) are being provided to cover the outside classroom tables on the west end of the building.
  • Recycling bins: The school now has boxes in each classroom and a main bin in the school foyer to collect used markers and crayons for recycling. The Eco Club is running this project.

The PTA will continue this support and leadership for our school community during the 2019-2020 school year but we need your help.  Please help build and protect the success of Jefferson School by taking three important steps:

  • Participate: Attend the programs and events the PTA sponsors throughout the year.  Additionally, join us at the first PTA meeting on Wednesday, August 14, 2019 at 8:15AM in the Multi-Purpose Room (MPR) to kick off the school year. Our regular PTA meetings will be on the third Wednesday of every month at 7PM in the MPR.
  • Support: Volunteer your time on one of the many committees. Jefferson School is a community based on great parent involvement. Your contribution, whether it is your time, knowledge, or resources make a difference. We invite you to become an involved member in your child’s education and community at Jefferson. Thank you for helping in any way you can and showing your children the importance you place on their education! Visit the “Wall of Volunteers” at the Ice Cream Social or Welcome Back Breakfast. We do our best to keep you informed of upcoming activities throughout the year.  Most of our correspondence will come to you on Tuesday’s via our online newsletter – Tiger Beat. You can also access any forms and check for updates on the Jefferson PTA website.  Another way to stay informed is to join the Families of Jefferson 205 Facebook Group. Also, please check with your room parents and have them add you to the individual class Facebook Group.

  • Register: We are excited to announce that we will use Membership Toolkit for our PTA Directory for the 2019-2020 school year.  Membership Toolkit merged with MySchoolAnywhere and will be the new Jefferson PTA Directory.  We have transferred all previous data to the new platform.

New Family Playdates  (back to top)

Every year, the Jefferson PTA sponsors playdates for incoming students and their families. Light snacks and beverages will be provided. 

  • August 8th - New Jefferson Family Playdate on the Jefferson Playground from 5-7PM
  • August 9th - New Jefferson Family Playdate on the Jefferson Playground from 9-11AM

*In the event of inclement weather the playdate may be reschedule via email.

We will be set up and ready to sell magnets, yard signs, knit hats, bling bracelets and athletic headbands (cash and checks only). These items will not be available during the online sale – so get yours while supplies last. You can purchase these items at our Spiritwear Table during the following events:

Welcome Back To School! The summer just flew by and here we are at the first week of school. There are many things happening this week beginning with the Ice Cream Social today. Please see the full details below. If you haven’t done so already, please signup to become a member of the Jefferson PTA, pay your dues and get access to the school directory. We’re excited to see everyone at school this week!

Register: We are using Membership Toolkit for our PTA Directory for the 2019-2020 school year. Membership Toolkit merged with MySchoolAnywhere and will be the new Jefferson PTA Directory. We have transferred all previous data to the new platform.

We invite you to visit www.d205jeffersonpta.membershiptoolkit.com to register on the new platform. Once you create a Membership Toolkit Account, you will have access to the PTA directory, pay membership dues, and much more. 

Here’s what you need do:

  • Go to https://d205jeffersonpta.membershiptoolkit.com.
  • Click on the Register/Login button.
  • IMPORTANT: RETURNING PARENTS NEED TO CREATE A NEW USER ACCOUNT AND SHOULD USE THE SAME LOGIN AND PASSWORD AS YOU HAD WITH MySchoolAnywhere UNDER “NEW USER”. SEE THE NEXT STEP
  • Select “Create Account” under “NEW USER” and fill in the name, email and password information.
  • Click “verify my email” and then check your email for a link to complete the process. The link expires in 2 hours. If you do not receive the email, please check your spam or junk folder.
  • Once you have a verified your email address, log back in and complete the steps below.
    • Complete the Parent/Family and Student Information.
    • Complete the Directory/Publish Preferences.
    • When you know your child’s teacher, please update the teacher category for your children.
    • Once these forms are complete, you will be presented with the forms for all of your Back-To-School needs in one convenient place!

Once the Primary account is set up, the Primary User can “invite” other email addresses to access their account. This allows the Secondary User to have their own login information, but still have access to the family account.

You will also have access to the directory from your smartphone. Go to the AppStore or Play Store and search for Membership Toolkit, download the app and login with your credentials.

First PTA Meeting  (back to top)
Join us at the first PTA meeting this Wednesday, August 14, 2019 at 8:15AM (after you drop-off) in the Multi-Purpose Room (MPR) to kick off the school year. Our regular PTA meetings will be on the third Wednesday of every month at 7PM in the MPR. 

Committee Volunteer  (back to top)
Please consider volunteering for one of the many committees. Jefferson School is a community based on great parent involvement. Your contribution, whether it is your time, knowledge, or resources make a difference. Visit the “Wall of Volunteers” at the Ice Cream Social today from 3:30PM to 4:30PM or at the Welcome Back Breakfast. Additionally, with our new Directory, Membership ToolKit, you will be able to sign-up online. More details are coming soon. Lunchroom/Playground Volunteer  (back to top)
Your help is needed! One of the first ways to volunteer is for our Lunchroom and Playground Helper program. Volunteers assist the Lunchroom & Playground Supervisors in supporting the needs of all Jefferson students during lunch/recess time. Volunteers work the entire lunch/recess shift, from 10:50AM–12:30PM. Parents may sign up to volunteer for one time or many! It’s a great way to see your child(ren) in action at school!  Please signup here. Thanks in advance for your help!

Student Late Arrival Days (back to top)
Student Late Arrival days (Staff Professional Development days) occur on Wednesdays, once or twice per month. The purpose is to provide time for teaching staff to collaborate and share best/next practices as part of their Professional Learning Communities, which improves student engagement and achievement. Start and Dismissial times for 2019-2020 Student Late Arrival days are as follows:

  • Grades 1-5: classes begin at 9:45AM; classes dismiss at 3:00PM
  • AM Kindergarten: classes begin at 9:45AM, classes dismiss at 11:55AM
  • PM Kindergarten: classes begin at 12:55PM, classes dismiss at 3:00PM

Supervised student arrival will begin 15 minutes prior to the start time. Mark your calendars to include the following elementary school late arrival dates: 8/28, 9/11, 9/25, 10/23, 11/20, 12/11, 1/15, 2/5, 2/19, 3/4, 3/18, 4/8, 4/22, 5/6.  Please refer to the Elmhurst D205 school calendar for official dates and late starts for the 2019-2020 school year.
