Jefferson Family Newsletter~October 8, 2021
Michelle Guerino

Dear Jefferson Families,

Thank you to our amazing PTA for planning another engaging Science Olympiad for students! It was wonderful to see the creative costumes combined with STEM activities for students! If your family hasn’t participated in previous years, definitely consider doing so for next year! It’s a fun night of learning for all!

The students participated in another Tiger Buddies meeting this week where they learned the difference between “bucket-filling” and “bucket-dipping.” The students listened to a story and brainstormed activities that would help them to be bucket fillers. The older students in the group got to practice leadership and mentoring of the younger students as they participated in some get to know you activities as well.

Today our staff participated in a district-wide SEL training where we learned about the 5 CASEL competencies of self-awareness, self-management, responsible decision-making, social awareness, and relationship skills. In the afternoon, 3rd-5th grade teachers looked at our literacy IAR data and made decisions about text complexity in our classrooms. K-2nd grade teachers and specialists analyzed writing samples to make decisions regarding writing instruction. We are so grateful for the delicious lunch provided by our PTA today!

Have a great weekend!

Sincerely, Dr. Christina Podraza

Halloween Parade (October 29th, 8:40-9:00)
Weather permitting, Jefferson students will once again participate in a schoolwide Halloween parade. The students will exit out the kindergarten door at 8:40 and proceed to the route which goes down Poplar, across Niagara, and back down Linden to Jefferson school. Families may begin lining up for their spot on school property after the bell rings in the morning. If you are lining up on the side streets, please be respectful to pedestrians and homeowners. We are looking forward to continuing this tradition once again this year! There will not be a whole school assembly afterwards due to COVID safety precautions.

Dogs on School Property
Please keep dogs and puppies off of school property when picking up your child(ren). We have students who have dog anxiety and it also presents a safety risk. Thank you for helping us to keep Jefferson a safe place for all students.
