Hello Jefferson Families!

Happy 2021!  It was great being able to reconnect with your children remotely this week.  We are looking forward to seeing many smiling faces in person next week!  To our new to hybrid families welcome back!  Please read on for important information regarding our return to school.

Hybrid Information

A few things to remember:

  • Snack break will be outside weather permitting.  Please make sure a snack that is easily opened with gloves or mittens on is sent.

  • Students will have access to lockers when we return and will be social distancing when putting away their things.

  • Remote students do not need to login until 8:45 a.m. to account for students getting accustomed to the routines of school from January 11th - January 14th.

  • Students will need to wear a mask at all times unless they are outside eating their snack.  We recommend having them bring an extra mask as a precautionary measure.

  • Students may bring a water bottle to school and use it in the classroom.

  • Students need to bring their fully charged Chromebook or iPad with a charger each day.

  • Students should have their student ID out and ready when they arrive at their grade level’s door for entry into the school.

  • To assist with social distancing, parents are only permitted around the perimeter of the building.

Each grade level will arrive at their own door each morning and dismiss from the same door in the afternoon.  A rope will be utilized for each classroom with a bow six feet apart for each student.  When students line-up they will line up by their bow.

  • Kindergarten: Door 1

  • 1st Grade: Door 8

  • 2nd Grade: Door 5

  • 3rd Grade: Door 3

  • 4th Grade: Door 9

  • 5th Grade: Main Entrance

Returning from Travel

For the safety of our staff and students, we ask that you take it upon yourself to self-quarantine if you have engaged in any behaviors that could be deemed high-risk prior to attending school in person.  The high-risk behaviors we are referencing are not wearing masks when out and about, not physically distancing, and/or gathering in groups of 10 or more outside of your family.  If you meet any of these criteria, we suggest that you get tested 3-5 days after travel AND stay home for 7 days following travel OR Stay home for 10 days when returning from any travel outside of Illinois.  There is an added question to our D205 daily health certification regarding travel and the CDC’s recommendation quarantine.  Please know that we understand that this is a difficult decision, and we ask that you consider the safety of our community prior to returning to school.  We are happy to work with your family to accommodate self-quarantine.

 D205 Presents The Innovator’s Mindset w/George Couros

This is possible due in part to our generous Jefferson PTA!  Thank you!!
D205 is pleased to present a special parent session with innovation leader George Couros, author of The Innovator’s Mindset; Empower Learning, Unleash Talent, and Lead a Culture of Creativity and his latest book, Innovate Inside the Box, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. on Friday, January 15 via Zoom. The session is free by clicking here to register.

Schools, like learning, are continuously evolving, and how does that change our role as parents? In this talk, George will discuss the idea and characteristics of “The Innovator’s Mindset” and share persuasive examples on why this is so crucial for all educators. George’s presentations are known to be emotional, humorous, all while pushing your thinking, and will connect to your heart first, in a way that will last with you long after this keynote.
Foundation 205 Virtual Showcase

Foundation 205 is hosting a Virtual Showcase: Standing Strong for our Students on February 6th at 7pm. The event is free to watch, but there are multiple opportunities to support BOTH our students and local businesses. Visit the website to register and get direct access to the live event link and online auction.

The evening will feature national comedian Pat McGann, TikTok sensation Sofie Sanfillipo and performances from York, Sandburg and Edison. The event will run about 45 minutes and will also highlight teachers and students from across the district implementing grants supported by Foundation 205. The current needs of our students are even greater in this new educational landscape. The ability to respond with innovative resources and support will play a critical role in their success throughout this pandemic and beyond.

One Jefferson, One Book Survey (Click here to take survey)

One Jefferson, One Book is a school-wide book club where the entire school reads the same book at the same time. The goal is to build a Community of Readers.  Along with reading the book, everyone has the opportunity to partake in various activities that support the theme of the chosen title.  For example, vocabulary games, learn how-to-draw, STEM projects, Bingo, crafts, discussions, trivia, contests, guest readers, etc. Families can get involved as much or as little as they would like. Participation is not required but encouraged.

OJOB is sponsored by Jefferson PTA and each family can receive a copy of the book. This year's book will be "Charlotte's Web", by E.B. White. The story takes place on a farm and concerns a pig named Wilbur and his devoted friend Charlotte, the spider who manages to save his life by writing about him in her web.

Please let us know below if you would like to receive a copy of the book for this program (one copy/family), so we can order the correct amount of copies. The target start date of the program is February.  More details about the specifics of OJOB will be sent home in January.  Thank you!
