Hello Jefferson Families!
This week marked our first opportunity to take advantage of the plans we have been using all year and not have to take a snow day. That makes all of us happy at school, but I am wondering how future generations of children may feel knowing that they may never get to experience the glory of having a day off to play in the snow. :)
In this week’s “Late Arrival” we spent time engaging with our 100 Day Plan, brainstorming with colleagues across grade levels on strategies we use for the action steps of the plan. This type of collaboration allows us to share the genius of all of our teachers and spread the wonderful teaching practices happening at Jefferson. Some of the ideas shared included new ideas about connecting with kids in morning meetings, new ways to give feedback to students, and new ideas for communicating with you.
Reminder to Self-Certify
Please remember to self-certify your child by 8:00 a.m. each morning. Text YES to 67587 to receive a daily text message reminder to fill out the self-certification form. A daily email will also be sent to the parents/guardians of any students attending in person.
Updated February 2021 In-Person Attendance Days
Due to a scheduling adjustment made at the January 26, 2021 Board of Education meeting, the following scheduling changes will be made for the month of February, which includes the use of Wednesdays for in-person learning on an alternating basis at Elementary Schools (K-5) and Churchville Middle School, for those students enrolled in the In-Person Hybrid Model at this time. The Madison Early Childhood Center, Bryan and Sandburg Middle Schools, and York High School schedules will remain as previously communicated for the month of February.
As a reminder, school schedules have been adjusted accordingly to ensure equitable opportunities for D205 students. Students with disabilities attending on an “AB schedule” of four days per week per parent choice, or five days per week because of the intensity of their programming (i.e. Transition, ABC, Multineeds, etc.), will now all attend five days per week in the Elementary Schools (K-5) and Churchville Middle School starting the week of Monday, February 1st.
Picture Day has been rescheduled for March 15th and 19th. More details to come when we get closer to the date.

One Jefferson, One Book (February 8-March 5)
Jefferson Tigers, are you ready to read?! On Monday, February 8th, Jefferson Elementary will kick off our 1st annual school-wide reading program called One Jefferson, One Book! Every Jefferson family and faculty member in the school will receive a copy of this year’s book, “Charlotte’s Web” by E.B. White. There will be a fun kick-off assembly to introduce the book, a shared reading schedule (with audio recordings available), discussions, trivia quizzes, art, optional at-home projects, give-back activities and more!
The entire school will be reading the book and encouraged to participate in enjoyable activities relating to the story. One Jefferson, One Book encourages both the school and its families to come together and build a community of readers. A community where we can all share thoughts, ideas, and a passion for reading.
While most reading and activities will be done at home, there will also be readings and discussions taking place in the classrooms. We encourage all families to use this opportunity to come together to read, carry on discussions about the story and even work together on some of the projects. The at-home activities are voluntary but they will offer a way for students to incorporate their creativity into the story.
It is our hope that everyone will not only fall in love with Charlotte & Wilbur, but will fall in love with reading as well! More details to come.
