Weekly Weber Update

Dear Jefferson Families,

Thank you to those that were able to attend the last PTA meeting of the year on Thursday. Thank you to all of the PTA Board members this year, we are so lucky to have such an amazing group of parents who devote so much of their time and energy to our Jefferson community. Welcome to our new PTA Board members! I look forward to a wonderful partnership in the upcoming school year.

Just a couple reminders as the weather gets warmer. Please make sure that you are not bringing dogs onto school property. This is a district policy that helps to ensure the safety of all students.

If you are the family of a kindergartner, please know that the playground is not accessible during school hours. We have several classes that come outside for lunch as well as TDPE during the school day. We appreciate your support in this area.

Superintendent Dr. David Moyer visited Jefferson this morning and gave a wonderful presentation informing families about the upcoming proposals and components of the Master Facility Plan. If you were not able to attend, there will be more sessions in the upcoming weeks (see below).

District 205 is hard at work developing the next phase of its comprehensive facilities study and creating a Master Facility Plan that will serve our community for many years to come. Architects Wight & Company presented facilities scenarios at the April 24 Board meeting.

Based on feedback from the Community Advisory team and recent listening sessions, the D205 administration is working to create a presentation that will be shared with the Board of Education on May 8 and in public at the Future Focused meetings on the following dates and locations: Saturday, May 12, from 9:30 to 11:30 AM, at York High School; Monday, May 14, from 7 to 9 PM at Churchville Middle School; Wednesday, May 23, from 7 to 9 PM at Bryan MS and Wednesday, May 30, from 7 to 9 PM at Sandburg MS.

Each presentation will be the same in content; please mark your calendar for the date that best suits you and plan to join the conversation. All are welcome!

Summer Send Off/Last Day of School
On our last day of school, we like to wish our 5th grade students good luck as they move on to new endeavors as well as send off our students on a happy note for summer. At 11:05 on Friday, May 25, we will have students in grades 1 through 5 exit the building through Door 3. Each grade level, beginning with first grade, will exit Door 3 and line up along the blacktop, so that each grade level will pass the previous grade level allowing for the fifth grade students to walk passed all of their previous teachers, younger students, and parents. At 11:15, students will be officially dismissed for the summer.

Nurse Update
Nurse Mariah is now on maternity leave. If your child is going to be out due to illness or appointments, please call the attendance line to leave a message; 630-617-8331. Nurse Malone will be filling in for Mariah. Her email address is cmalone@elmhurst205.org. Please feel free to email her any questions or concerns you have.

Student Council Penny Wars
On Monday, April 30th, Student Council will begin our week and a half long “Penny War.” The Penny War will be between grade levels and will run from Monday, April 30th through Wednesday, May 9th. Each grade level will have two large containers located in the main office. Students may put pennies in their grade level penny container. The grade level with the largest sum of money by the end of the day May 9th will win an extra 30 minute recess.
What are we collecting money for? The Caribbean island of Puerto Rico was struck by very damaging hurricanes several months ago. Rebuilding will take years, so they need our help! All proceeds from this Penny War will go directly to Habitat for Humanity in Puerto Rico to help rebuild family homes. 

2nd Annual Book Drive 
Jefferson Elementary will be holding its 2nd Annual Book Drive during the month of May. We hope to promote summer reading by getting a “new to you” book in the hands of each and every student.
Here’s how it works...

  • Families are encouraged to donate as many used books as they can
  • Students will bring their books to the school (April 30 to May 11)
  • Teachers send collected books to the library to be previewed and sorted (similar to how you return library books)
  • Students will choose 1 “new to you” book to take home … as another way to promote summer reading! Every student will receive 1 “new to you” book, regardless of how many books they donate.
  • Books remaining after the students have chosen will be distributed for use in classroom libraries!

Incoming 6th Grade Informational Nights
We have students attending all three middle schools next year, so I wanted to share some information in regards to informational nights.

On Tuesday, May 15th, Bryan Middle School will be hosting our Welcome Night for all parents of incoming sixth graders. This evening event is for parents and will be presented by Bryan administration, counselors, and team leaders to help support students and parents as they transition to middle school. See below for the tentative agenda.
6:30-Optional Meet and Greet for 504 Students (room 402)
6:30-Optional Informational Meeting for students who have an IEP (Library)
7:00-Program Begins in Auditorium
8:15-Conclusion of Program

Sandburg PTA will host a Welcome Night on Tuesday, May 8th at 7:00pm in their auditorium for all incoming 6th grade parents. Sandburg PTA will sponsor a parent night for incoming sixth grade parents. It will be held in Sandburg’s auditorium. You will have a chance to ask questions, take a tour, learn about Sandburg, and meet other parents. Mrs. Fehrenbacher and Mr. Gail will be present as well as student ambassadors to provide a tour. This will be an hour long event.

On Tuesday, May 17th at 7:00, Churchville Middle School will be hosting our Welcome Night for all incoming 6th grade parents. This evening event is for parents and will be presented by Churchville administration, counselors, and team leaders to help support students and parents as they transition to middle school.
