Weekly Weber Update

April 9, 2018

Dear Jefferson Families,

Well, it is supposed to be Spring, but I guess we are going to have to wait until later in the week. The good news is that we should be good to go for Running Club to start on Wednesday! Please remember that this Wednesday is a district-wide Student Late Arrival. We have some wonderful events coming up in the next few weeks, so please check our website.

Congratulations to our Battle of the Books team, Anonymous Gold! They will be participating in a district wide competition next Tuesday, April 17, at the Elmhurst Library after school. Come cheer them on! Good luck to Claire Goodman, Joe Messersmith, Mimi Baxa, Brooklyn Stilson, Sarah Bohlin and Mikey Marcuccelli. Thank you to the sponsors Mrs. Georgalas and Mr. Grosso for all of their hard work in making the Battle of the Books a success this year.

At the May PTA meeting, I will be presenting information in regards to Standards Based Reporting. This reporting was piloted at both Field and Hawthorne this year and all elementary buildings will be using this form of reporting next year. It will be an informational presentation discussing the shifts in our reporting tool. Please come and learn about this wonderful tool and what information it will give you in regards to your child’s learning.

Students in grades 3-5 are participating in PARCC testing this week. This assessment is mandated by the state and assesses students in the areas of math and reading. As with any testing, a good night’s sleep and a healthy breakfast will help students during this time. Below is the testing schedule for this week. Make-up testing will begin next week.

April 9-13 Math  ( Mon., Tues., Thurs., Fri.)
3rd grade: 12:45-2:15pm
4th grade: 10:45am-12:00pm
5th grade: 9:35-11:00am

Top Pizza Taste of Elmhurst
The tradition continues with this year’s seventh Top Pizza Taste of Elmhurst event on Thursday, April 26, from 5:30-8:00 PM in the York High School Commons. Local area restaurants and pizzerias will showcase their traditional and specialty variety pizza pies. The $10 entrance fee allows attendees to taste the variety of vendor offerings and vote for their favorites in a variety of categories. This is a great community fundraising event that allows families and friends to enjoy dinner and taste pizzas that are both familiar and new. For those families trying to juggle the Jefferson Celebration of Learning Night, it’s a great way to grab dinner before or after. Proceeds benefit District 205 Foundation programs that enhance education for our EC-12 schools. For more information and to purchase entrance fee ahead so you do not need to wait in line, visit

SOLES for Kids
The York High School Key Club is again sponsoring a “Soles for Kids” shoe drive, and we are asking for your support and assistance with this endeavor. Through the generosity of District 205 families, they have successfully collected over 8,000 pairs of shoes over the past six years. The drive will start Monday, March 5 and conclude on Friday, May 11.
Soles for Kids is a charity organization that collects gently used shoes and sends them to needy children and adults in Africa as well as Indian Reservations in the United States. Many times families in these places need to pick between shoes and food, so we aim to provide the shoes for free.
For more information on the charity itself, such as where the shoes are going or how they are getting there, we’ve attached the link of the Soles for Kids website for your convenience.
