Weekly Weber Update

April 3, 2018

Dear Jefferson Families,

I hope everyone had a wonderful Spring Break! Many students returned with some great stories of their adventures. My family stayed local and went to Sheboygan for a weekend; it was nice to just relax for the week. We have some wonderful events coming up in the next few weeks, so please check our website.

Students in grades 3-5 are participating in the PARCC assessment the next two weeks. This assessment is mandated by the state and assesses students in the areas of math and reading. As with any testing, a good night’s sleep and a healthy breakfast will help students during this time. Below is the testing schedule for the next two weeks.

April 2-6: ELA (Tues., Thurs., Fri.)
3rd grade: 8:30-10:15am
4th grade: 1:15-3:00pm
5th grade: 9:35-11:35am

April 9-13 Math (Mon., Tues., Thurs., Fri.)
3rd grade: 12:45-2:15pm
4th grade: 10:45am-12:00pm
5th grade: 9:35-11:00am

Home for Lunch
As the weather gets warmer, there is usually an increase in students who leave for the lunch hour. Please make sure to follow these steps in order to ensure that the we are able to account for all students during the lunch period. Please email the teacher and copy Mrs. Guerino on the email, in case there is a substitute, that your child will be leaving for lunch. Your child will need to sign out in the office when they are leaving and then check back in when they return. Students are not to walk home by themselves, we ask that a parent or guardian picks them up.

Jump Rope for Heart: A message from Mrs. Spinelle
Jump Rope for Heart 2018 was an AMAZING SUCCESS!! Our goal was $10,000 and as a whole you all helped raise $12,917! This is our best year yet for fundraising for the American Heart Association! I cannot thank all of you enough with the help you all gave towards Jump Rope for Heart this year! I don't know what I'd do without all of your help and support with this event.

Parents, thank you so very much for helping your child(ren) with signing up, sending emails and getting donations!

Students, thank you so very much for your amazingly hard work at fundraising and participation in Jump Rope for Heart!

Your help and support really propelled Jefferson to beat our goal! All of that will go toward the American Heart Association and their research. Jefferson could not have had such a fun and successful Jump Rope for Heart without all of you! Thank you!

Class Placement 2018-2019
It’s that time of year again when plans for next fall start to take shape. The student placement process is quite complex and careful thought is given to each individual student’s learning strengths, challenges and peer relationships to create the best learning environment for all. Sometimes parents have additional information to add as it pertains to a child’s learning style or serious peer conflicts that might impact the learning environment. If you wish to communicate such information to be considered, please put your thoughts into writing and send them to me no later than Monday, April 9th. We are dedicated to providing a learning environment that enriches academic growth and enhances the social development of each child at Jefferson School. Please remember that a request for a specific teacher is not appropriate.

SOLES for Kids
The York High School Key Club is again sponsoring a “Soles for Kids” shoe drive, and we are asking for your support and assistance with this endeavor. Through the generosity of District 205 families, they have successfully collected over 8,000 pairs of shoes over the past six years. The drive will start Monday, March 5 and conclude on Friday, May 11.

Soles for Kids is a charity organization that collects gently used shoes and sends them to needy children and adults in Africa as well as Indian Reservations in the United States. Many times families in these places need to pick between shoes and food, so we aim to provide the shoes for free.

For more information on the charity itself, such as where the shoes are going or how they are getting there, we’ve attached the link of the Soles for Kids website for your convenience.
