Weekly Weber Update

February 26, 2018

Dear Jefferson Families,
Thank you to our PTA for an amazing Winter Carnival event on Saturday. It was wonderful to see everyone and I know a fabulous time was had by all. Thank you to Mrs. Panfil and Mrs. Jasani and all of the volunteer parents and teachers who made everything possible. All of the behind the scenes work that goes into the carnival is amazing and it is truly hours and hours of time that is greatly appreciated.

I also had a wonderful time Friday morning at our Coffee with Mrs. Weber! It was great to see parents, even some new to Jefferson parents for next year, attend. We discussed the great work that is being done at Jefferson and our continued plans to move forward and support all students. I shared the alignment between our district and our school and what wonderful things are ahead for our students moving forward. Communication is a key to the success of our school community! If you were not able to join us Friday, please try to attend one of our PTA meetings! The next one isThursday, March 8 at 7:00pm.

This week we have a student late arrival on Wednesday and a non-student attendance day on Friday due to a Teacher Institute day. Our teachers will be continuing their professional learning on Friday with some wonderful presentations by their peers.

MAP scores for students in grades 2-5 were emailed home last week. Please let us know if you did not receive these.

REACH Identification/Appeal Process
Families of students currently in Grades 2 and 5 who are newly identified for REACH, the District’s gifted program, will receive an email notification from District 205 on Thursday, March 1. Services will begin in the 2018-2019 school year. REACH identification information can be found online at

Parents, teachers and administrators may appeal REACH placement for students currently in grades 3-7. The Application for Appeal is open between February 1 and March 15, and for which additional testing is required. The application and additional information can be found online at

SOLES for Kids
The York High School Key Club is again sponsoring a “Soles for Kids” shoe drive, and we are asking for your support and assistance with this endeavor. Through the generosity of District 205 families, they have successfully collected over 8,000 pairs of shoes over the past six years. The drive will start Monday, March 5 and conclude on Friday, May 11.

Soles for Kids is a charity organization that collects gently used shoes and sends them to needy children and adults in Africa as well as Indian Reservations in the United States. Many times families in these places need to pick between shoes and food, so we aim to provide the shoes for free.

For more information on the charity itself, such as where the shoes are going or how they are getting there, we’ve attached the link of the Soles for Kids website for your convenience.
