Weekly Weber Update

January 16, 2018

Dear Jefferson Families,

That extra day off was a wonderful day to play in the snow! Please remember that tomorrow, Wednesday, is a late arrival for students. Our teachers are continuing to be learners as well during our late arrivals. The focus is on guided reading and readers’ workshop. I know that as I have walked through classrooms, students are reading more and more and teachers are working with students in small groups to give them the differentiated support they need.

Please make sure to take some time to complete the 5Essentials survey for Jefferson. In order to get results and feedback on your input, we need to have at least 20% participation. The window closesJanuary 31st. To take the parent survey please visit https://survey.5-essentials.org/Illinois/ and select the appropriate survey to begin. A link is also provided on the Elmhurst D205 website.

Battle of the Books is up and running this year! Thank you to Mr. Grosso and Mrs. Georgalas for organizing and supporting the students in this wonderful activity. Students are on teams and reading a variety of books competing for a chance to move to the district level final competition. Keep on reading!

Thank you to our PTA for organizing and bringing Junior Achievement to Jefferson. A letter went home last week, if your child is interested in participating in Junior Achievement during their recess time, please complete and turn in the registration form by Friday, January 19. See the PTA website for more information.

MAP TESTING GRADES 2-5 - The MAP testing window opens on Wednesday, January 17th. Students in grades 2-5 will take a math and reading MAP assessment. This is one tool that we use in combination with formative assessments as well as other summative assessments to guide our instruction in both math and reading. Classroom teachers will put in their weekly communication when your child will be taking the assessment.
