Weekly Weber Update

December 4, 2017

Dear Jefferson Families,
I hope you had a wonderful warm weekend. I finally got my holiday lights up outside!

Thank you to Mr. Nemec for arranging for our Jefferson Singers to sing at Yorktown Mall on Saturday. The Jefferson and Edison Singers were amazing to hear and they brought some holiday cheer to all who were there. Please remember that this Wednesday, December 6, is student late arrival. Our Student Council After School movie is on Thursday, December 7, the movie will begin a little after 3:00pm. Please pick up your children if they are attending at 5:00pm at the main entrance.

The Jan Newmann Giving Tree Assembly
The Giving Tree assembly is a wonderful event that allows us to support and give to others, especially in the Elmhurst community. The assembly is in memory of Jan Newmann, a friend and colleague of the Jefferson community. This year, if you would like to participate, please send your child with a gift card to donate. We are working with Mary Queen of Heaven Church to distribute the gift cards to families in need. There will be two assemblies on December 14; K-2 will be from 8:45-9:30am and 3-5 will be from 9:45-10:30am. This is one of my favorite times of the year to hear the students sing, please come and join us.

5Essentials Survey
Beginning December 5, students, teachers and parents across Illinois will have the opportunity to participate in the fourth annual statewide Illinois 5Essentials Survey. This survey will allow you and your child (in grades 4 through 12) to share thoughts on important elements of school effectiveness at your child’s school. It asks students about their experiences in school and parents about their experiences with your child’s school, giving school leaders critical student input to help develop school improvement plans.

All teachers, parents, and 4th through 12th grade students will be asked to respond to this survey. Reports will be sent to schools and districts in March 2018 and data will also be included in the State School Report Card.

Your identity and survey responses will be kept completely confidential and will never be connected to you or your child.  Student participants will be required to log in using their student ID and birth date in order to complete the survey. Students’ identities will be completely confidential. Teachers or administrators will never see individual responses to survey questions and will only receive aggregated information, such as the total percentage of students who agree homework assignments help them learn the course material. The parent survey takes about 10 minutes; the student survey about 25 minutes. To take the parent survey please visit  and select the appropriate survey to begin. A link is also provided on the Elmhurst D205 website. Please take a moment to participate.
