Gym Shoe Expectations

Students are required to keep a pair of clean gym shoes for PE class in their locker. In an effort to keep the gym clean throughout the day, students are required to change into these gym shoes prior to coming to PE class, regardless of whether or not they wear gym shoes to school. Thank you

Each day your homework for PE is to exercise!

I highly suggest doing these exercises before you start your nightly homework because vigorous exercise BEFORE learning helps create a heightened state of attention.

Exercise improves student learning, memory, mood and behavior. Doing these exercises before your homework will get your brain ready to work!

These exercises are not hard. In fact you most likely have done these exercises in PE already!

  1. Jumping Jacks
  2. Push Ups and/or Crab Push Ups
  3. Plank
  4. Tuck Jumps
  5. Mountain Climbers
  6. Crab Kicks

Mandi Spinelle

My name is Mrs. Spinelle and I will be your child's PE teacher this year! This is my 5th year of teaching in the Elmhurst district, and my first year at Jefferson and Emerson! I am only at Emerson on Tuesday and Thursday afternoon. The rest of the week I will be at Jefferson.

I am looking forward to working with your child and helping them learn and understand the importance of daily physical activity and their health!

I hope you will find my website a helpful resource throughout the year to keep you connected to what we are learning in PE. An open line of communication between us will be very important to your child’s success. Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have.

PE Medical Excuse Guidelines

It is important that students attend and participate in physical education classes.  A student may be excused for reasons of illness or injury for up to one week (two consecutive classes for grades 1-5 and one class for kindergarten) with a note from a parent or legal guardian.  The note must include the reason and duration of the excuse.

If a medical concern extends beyond one week, a doctor’s note specifying the reason for and the duration of non-participation is required.  Medical excuses must be submitted to the school nurse  at the start of the school day.  The medical excuses are also applied to participation in intramurals, recess, and teacher-directed physical education.
