Welcome to Second Grade!

Dear Second Grade Families,

Welcome to second grade!  I know it is going to be a fantastic year. I would like to tell you about myself, and my goals for this school year as well.

I am proud to say that I grew up in Elmhurst, and have wonderful memories attending District 205 schools.  This is my fourteenth year as a teacher.  I also taught third grade and morning kindergarten here at Jefferson.

My main goal this year is to create a positive and comfortable learning community within the classroom.  I want to help each student feel secure and build upon their sense of self-confidence.  Equally important, I know each student has a different brain, which means they all think differently.  It’s my job as a classroom teacher to help students grow as learners and as people of good character.  If at any time you have a question or a concern, please do not hesitate to contact me.  The easiest way to get a hold of me is to email me at: adobric@elmhurst205.org.

I encourage you to send water (sipper type bottle) and a fresh fruit or vegetable to school daily. Research shows that both of these items ‘boost’ the brain!

The temperature in our classroom can fluctuate a great deal.  Please have your child bring a sweatshirt, light jacket, or sweater to keep in his or her locker or backpack throughout the year.

Here is our specials schedule for the year:

Monday: P.E.

Tuesday: ART

Wednesday: Music

Thursday: LRC and Music

Friday: P.E. and TRC

Graded papers will be sent home every Friday. This will sum up the week and give you a chance to have a conversation with your child.  It’s a great opportunity to reinforce learning! I will also post a weekly newsletter outlining what we will be working on and learning each Monday on my website through Jefferson School.

Want to know more about me?  When I am not at work I love to spend time with my family, exercise, do art projects with my daughters, shop and cook.  My husband teaches and coaches at York High School.  We spent the summer enjoying our two daughters, Ava (7) and Ella (5).  This summer my family and I had fun visiting Springfield, Orange Beach in Alabama, New Orleans, and traveled a couple of times to Lake Geneva.

It was wonderful meeting all of my new students and their families on Tuesday afternoon.  Let’s work together to make this the best year ever!

Sincerely,

Antoinette Dobric
